Hattember Competition – A Challenge To Remember!

Welcome to Hatters Millinery Supplies Hattember Competition for 2021! For this year’s competition we have chosen to centre around a theme of  “The places you’ll go”. In the past year, we’ve all had to rearrange our lives and our plans due to the pandemic and have therefore missed milestones, events, travel and other important celebrations. We are asking entrants in each category to be inspired by this prompt and think about the places you’ll go or the things you’ll do once restrictions are lifted. Keep scrolling for some ideas.

As usual, the Hattember competition is a charitable effort, raising funds for the John Skipper Kelly Fund. The JSK Fund is a cause close to our hearts, which provides leadership opportunities, mentoring and support for young people from a range of backgrounds.

This year we will be hosting a very special event featuring a fashion show presentation of all the entries. The event will be held at Le Montage, Lilyfield – a luxurious bridal venue where we will enjoy a Champagne Cocktail Party  in celebration of the Hattember Competition and the John Skipper Kelly Fund. The event will be held on the 2nd of September – Tickets will be available very soon through Humanitix.

This year we will be offering three categories for you to enter:

Category 1: Millinery                                                                               Category 2: Novice                                                                          Category 3: Bridal and Evening

Entrants in each category will be sent a curated bag of materials (each category will receive different materials) in which to create their entry from. Each of the items in the bag must be used, if only in part, to complete your submission.

Registration, which includes entry, your bag of materials and the postage of the materials, is $110 for Category 1: Millinery, Category 2: Novice and Category 3: Bridal will be $110

You may enter up to two times per category.

Postage and return postage of your final submission is at the entrants cost. A return postage label MUST be included in the box with your submission. If you are an international entrant, you may contact us to organise your return postage.

For full details on each category as well as terms and conditions, see below.

Category 1: Millinery

For this year’s competition we are asking entrants to create a hat, headpiece or fascinator. We are looking for an innovative and high quality piece of millinery that will really wow us!

To allow you to fully spread your creative wings, we have decided to do away with the limit on extra materials that we have had in previous years! You may use as many additional materials as required, however we still ask that you use at least some part of each of the materials provided in the kit.

The piece should be made to fit a head fit of 22.5 inches or 57cm.

Judges will determine the winner of the Millinery category by –

  1. Original Design
  2. Wearability
  3. Quality Workmanship
  4. Use of provided and additional materials

Category 2: Novice

This category is open to students and beginners alike – e.g TAFE students, community college students or those studying through an accredited source. Wether you’ve just been introduced to millinery or have been studying for a while, this is the perfect category for you to flex your creative muscles!

We are asking entrants in the Novice category to create a hat, headpiece or fascinator.
